IP address lookup

Look up any IPv4 or IPv6 address: where it is, which network owns it (its ASN), and whether it belongs to a VPN, a Tor exit or a hosting provider. Your own address is filled in to start with.

20 free lookups a day, no account needed. Works for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

What an IP lookup tells you

Every device on the internet reaches you from an IP address. The address alone says a lot about who is on the other end.

Where it is
The country, region and usually the city the address is registered to. It’s approximate: good enough for fraud rules and analytics, not for a street address.
Who owns the network
The autonomous system number (ASN) and the organization behind it: a home broadband provider, a mobile network, a cloud host or a company.
Whether to trust it
Flags for VPN networks, Tor exit nodes and datacenters. Real customers rarely sign up from a datacenter; bots and fraud often do.

Need more than 20 a day?

Check every sign-up, login and checkout. On the TrustLookup API an IP lookup costs 1 credit, IPv4 or IPv6, and a CSV upload checks a whole list of addresses at once, a bulk IP lookup without writing code. Add the free blacklist check in the same request.

Request

curl https://api.trustlookup.io/v1/lookup \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TRUSTLOOKUP_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode q="2001:4860:4860::8888" \

Questions

Is this IP lookup free?

Yes. This page looks up 20 addresses a day without an account. On the API, an IP lookup costs 1 credit, and the free plan includes 250 credits a month.

Does it work for IPv6?

Yes. Enter an IPv6 address in any standard form, like 2001:4860:4860::8888, and you get the same location, network and VPN details as for IPv4.

What is an ASN?

An autonomous system number identifies a network on the internet, such as an ISP, a mobile operator or a cloud provider. The ASN lookup here shows which network an IP belongs to and who runs it.

Can I look up many IPs at once?

Yes, with an account. Upload a CSV of addresses and TrustLookup checks every row, then gives you a file of results. Each address costs 1 credit.

How accurate is the location?

Country is right for almost every address. City is an estimate from registration data and can be off by tens of kilometres, especially for mobile networks and VPNs.

How do you spot VPNs and Tor?

Tor exits come from the Tor Project’s published list. VPNs and datacenters are recognized by their network (ASN), known hosting ranges and reverse DNS names. A VPN on a network we don’t know yet can still pass.
