Phone number lookup API

Ask the live network about a phone number: which carrier it’s on today, whether it moved networks, and whether the phone is switched on right now.

Four lookups, one endpoint

Phone validation · 1 credit
Valid or not, E.164 format, country and line type from the numbering plan.
Carrier lookup · 2 credits
The network the number is on today, with MCC and MNC codes. Try it free.
Number portability · 3 credits
Whether the number moved to another network, and which one it moved from.
HLR live status · 5 credits
Asks the mobile network whether the phone is on and reachable, and whether it’s roaming.

Where teams use it

SMS routing
Send each message through the route for the carrier the number is really on, not the one its prefix suggests.
Fraud checks
A number that was just ported or isn’t in service is a signal worth weighing before you approve an account or a payout.
Cleaning a list before a campaign
Drop numbers that are no longer in service so you don’t pay to message them.

Pay for the lookups you run

One credit balance covers every check, so the same plan pays for email, phone, IP and domain lookups. A lookup that fails on our side costs nothing.

Questions

Does it tell me who owns a number?

No. It tells you about the number and its network, not the person. TrustLookup doesn’t look up names or addresses.

Which plans include it?

Carrier, portability and HLR lookups are on every paid plan, from $19 a month. Phone validation is on the free plan too.

What does “ported” mean?

The number moved from the network it started on to another one. The prefix still points at the old network, which is why routing and fraud tools ask.

Which countries does it cover?

Validation covers every country. Live lookups depend on the operators in each country and are strongest in North America and Europe. A lookup we can’t answer costs nothing.

How fresh are the answers?

HLR answers are reused for up to 15 minutes, carrier and portability answers for up to 7 days. Send fresh=true to ask the network again.

Can I look up a whole list?

Yes. Upload a CSV on any paid plan, choose the lookups, and download the results as new columns.
