}What every phone check covers
- Valid or not
- Checked against the official numbering plan for every country, not just a digit count.
- E.164 and local formats
- The number in the format SMS and voice providers expect, plus how it’s written at home and abroad.
- Line type
- Mobile, landline, VoIP, toll-free or premium rate. VoIP numbers are the ones fraud checks care about.
- Country and calling code
- Where the number is from, even when someone types it without the country code.
- Original carrier
- The operator the number range was first given to. For the network it’s on today, use a carrier lookup.
- Time zones
- So you can text or call at a sensible hour.
Where teams use it
- Before sending an SMS code
- Every code sent to a number that can’t receive it is money spent for nothing. Check first, then send.
- Sign-up and checkout forms
- Catch typos while the person is still on the page, and save numbers in one clean format.
- Blocking VoIP sign-ups
- Virtual numbers are cheap in bulk. Use the line type to ask for more proof or to block them.
Pay for the lookups you run
One credit balance covers every check, so the same plan pays for email, phone, IP and domain lookups. A lookup that fails on our side costs nothing.

Questions
How is phone validation different from a phone number lookup?
Validation reads the official numbering plans, so it’s instant and costs 1 credit. A phone number lookup asks the live network which carrier the number is on and whether the phone is reachable.
Which countries does it cover?
Every country and territory in the international numbering plan.
What if the number has no country code?
Numbers without a country code are read as US numbers. Send the full international number, with + and the country code, for anywhere else.
Can it tell me if the phone is switched on?
Not from the numbering plan alone. Add the hlr check to ask the mobile network whether the phone is reachable right now. It’s a Pro lookup for 5 credits.
Is it on the free plan?
Yes. The 250 free credits each month cover 250 phone validations.
