Alternatives / Twilio Lookup

A Twilio Lookup alternative for carrier, porting and HLR

TrustLookup answers the same carrier question as Twilio’s Line Type Intelligence, adds number portability, and checks emails, IPs and domains with the same key.

The short version

Pick TrustLookup if

  • You run 10,000 or more carrier lookups a month. From there a plan costs less than Twilio’s per-request price.
  • You want to know whether a number was ported and from which network.
  • You also check emails, IPs or domains and want one key and one bill for all of it.
  • You want to upload a CSV yourself instead of asking sales for bulk access.

Stay with Twilio Lookup if

  • You only need a few hundred lookups a month. Twilio has no monthly fee, so small volumes cost less.
  • You need caller name (CNAM), SIM swap, call forwarding or reassigned-number data. TrustLookup doesn’t offer those.
  • Live line status is your main check: Twilio’s Line Status starts at $0.007 a request, below our HLR price.
  • You already send SMS through Twilio and want lookups on the same account.

What it costs

Carrier lookups compared with Twilio’s Line Type Intelligence at $0.008 each. TrustLookup prices are the cheapest plan that covers the volume; unused credits roll over and also pay for any other check.

Twilio prices are US prices per request from Twilio’s pricing page; other countries may differ. TrustLookup’s carrier lookup costs the same in every country.

Switching takes one request

Twilio’s Line Type Intelligence request becomes one request with checks=carrier. carrier_name maps to data.name, mobile_country_code to data.mcc, mobile_network_code to data.mnc, and type to data.network_type. Add mnp or hlr to the same request for porting and live status.

Questions

Is TrustLookup cheaper than Twilio Lookup?

It depends on volume. Twilio charges $0.008 per Line Type Intelligence request with no monthly fee. Below about 2,400 carrier lookups a month Twilio costs less; between that and 10,000 it depends on where you land between our plans; from 10,000 up a TrustLookup plan costs less. The table above shows the numbers.

Does it return the same fields as Line Type Intelligence?

The same core answer: carrier name, mobile country code, mobile network code and line type. Field names differ, so map them once when you switch.

Can I see whether a number was ported?

Yes. The mnp check returns whether the number was ported, the original network and the current one, for 3 credits.

What about Twilio Verify or Messaging?

TrustLookup only looks things up; it doesn’t send SMS or verification codes. Many teams check numbers with TrustLookup and keep sending through Twilio.

Can I try it before paying?

Run up to 5 carrier lookups a day on the free carrier lookup page, or sign up and use the free credits for phone validation.
