A NumVerify alternative with live carrier data

NumVerify tells you whether a number is valid and which carrier it was registered with. TrustLookup does that too, and can ask the live network which carrier it’s on now and whether the phone is switched on.

The short version

Pick TrustLookup if

  • You need the carrier a number is on today, not the one it started with.
  • You want to know whether a number was ported, or whether the phone is reachable right now.
  • You want to upload a CSV of numbers yourself.
  • You also check emails, IPs or domains.

Stay with NumVerify if

  • You only need basic validation at high volume. NumVerify’s plans cost less per request: 50,000 requests are $59.99 a month.
  • You want the cheapest way in: NumVerify’s Basic plan is $14.99 for 5,000 requests.
  • You already use other APILayer APIs.

What it costs

For plain validation NumVerify is the cheaper option, and this table shows it. TrustLookup charges 1 credit per validation; the difference is what else the same plan can do.

Switching takes one request

Send the number to /v1/lookup with checks=phone for the same answer NumVerify gives: valid, international and national formats, country, original carrier and line type. Add carrier, mnp or hlr to the same request when you need live data.

Questions

What’s the difference between “registered” carrier and live carrier?

The registered carrier is the operator the number range was given to. When someone moves networks and keeps their number, that stays the same. A live carrier lookup asks the network which carrier the number is on today.

Is TrustLookup cheaper than NumVerify?

Not for plain validation; NumVerify costs less per request there. TrustLookup is the better fit when you also need live carrier, porting or HLR data, or email and IP checks.

Can I try the live carrier lookup?

Yes, run up to 5 a day on the free carrier lookup page.
